Webinar „Left behind Women with disabilities during Covid 19”

Representatives of the …IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA participated in the webinar organized by the European Forum for Persons with Disabilities on June 19, 2020. The webinar discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women and girls with disabilities who suffer violence. The webinar also aimed to point out the problems of women and girls with disabilities exposed to violence, to ensure that they are not left behind during and after this pandemic.

The webinar was conducted in an accessible way for persons with disabilities providing live captioning and sign language interpretation. It was recorded and it is available on EDF’s website.

Ana Peláez Narváez, EDF Vice-President, gave the opening remarks and she was the moderator of the webinar.

Luisa Bosisio Fazzi, Member of EDF’s board and EDF Women’s Committee, gave an update of the situation of women and girls with disabilities in Italy.

Joanna Maycock, Secretary General of European Women’s Lobby, explained the work of the European women’s movement has been doing since the pandemic started.

Dr Monjurul Kabir, Coordinator Advisor on Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion in the UN system Coordination Division of UN Women, spoke about the recommendations on the next steps to women and girls with disabilities after this health crisis.

Isabel Caballero, CERMI Women’s Foundation Coordinator, talked about good practices during COVID-19 pandemic on actions focused on women and girls with disabilities.

Dr Marre Karu, iz Evropskog instituta za rodnu ravnopravnost, opisala je šta je Institut radio tokom pandemije COVID-19 u vezi sa ženama i devojkama sa invaliditetom u smislu prikupljanja podataka.

Dr Marre Karu, from the European Institute on Gender Equality, described what the EIGE was doing through the COVID-19 pandemic regarding women and girls with disability in terms of collecting data.

Elisabeth White, from the Gender Equality Unit of the European Commission, explained briefly the Gender Equality Strategy in the EU in relation with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women and girls with disabilities.

After all the presentations, there was time for questions and answers. Another webinar was announced by November this year on violence against women, but the exact date is still to be confirmed.
