Webinar „Left behind Women with disabilities during Covid 19”

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the IZ KRUGAVOJVODINA par­tic­i­pat­ed in the webi­nar orga­nized by the Euro­pean Forum for Per­sons with Dis­abil­i­ties on June 19, 2020. The webi­nar dis­cussed the impact of the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic on women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties who suf­fer vio­lence. The webi­nar also aimed to point out the prob­lems of women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties exposed to vio­lence, to ensure that they are not left behind dur­ing and after this pan­dem­ic.

The webi­nar was con­duct­ed in an acces­si­ble way for per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties pro­vid­ing live cap­tion­ing and sign lan­guage inter­pre­ta­tion. It was record­ed and it is avail­able on EDF’s web­site.

Ana Peláez Narváez, EDF Vice-Pres­i­dent, gave the open­ing remarks and she was the mod­er­a­tor of the webi­nar.

Luisa Bosi­sio Fazzi, Mem­ber of EDF’s board and EDF Women’s Com­mit­tee, gave an update of the sit­u­a­tion of women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties in Italy.

Joan­na May­cock, Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al of Euro­pean Women’s Lob­by, explained the work of the Euro­pean women’s move­ment has been doing since the pan­dem­ic start­ed.

Dr Mon­ju­rul Kabir, Coor­di­na­tor Advi­sor on Gen­der Equal­i­ty and Dis­abil­i­ty Inclu­sion in the UN sys­tem Coor­di­na­tion Divi­sion of UN Women, spoke about the rec­om­men­da­tions on the next steps to women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties after this health cri­sis.

Isabel Caballero, CERMI Women’s Foun­da­tion Coor­di­na­tor, talked about good prac­tices dur­ing COVID-19 pan­dem­ic on actions focused on women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties.

Dr Marre Karu, iz Evrop­skog insti­tu­ta za rod­nu ravno­pravnost, opisala je šta je Insti­tut radio tokom pan­demi­je COVID-19 u vezi sa žena­ma i devo­jka­ma sa inva­lidite­tom u smis­lu priku­pl­jan­ja podata­ka.

Dr Marre Karu, from the Euro­pean Insti­tute on Gen­der Equal­i­ty, described what the EIGE was doing through the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic regard­ing women and girls with dis­abil­i­ty in terms of col­lect­ing data.

Elis­a­beth White, from the Gen­der Equal­i­ty Unit of the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion, explained briefly the Gen­der Equal­i­ty Strat­e­gy in the EU in rela­tion with the impact of the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic on women and girls with dis­abil­i­ties.

After all the pre­sen­ta­tions, there was time for ques­tions and answers. Anoth­er webi­nar was announced by Novem­ber this year on vio­lence against women, but the exact date is still to be con­firmed.
