Closing Conference: How much are Domestic Violence Protection Services and Institutions available to Women with Disabilities?

How accessible are the services and institutions of domestic violence protection to women with disabilities is the title of the final conference of the Support to Civil Society Organizations project in providing services to women and girls who survived violence, especially to women from marginalized groups, such as women with disabilities and women victims of rape and sexual violence.

The project is being implemented by … IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA in cooperation with the United Nations Agency for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment UN WOMEN and with the financial support of the European Commission and under the Stop the Violence Against Women program in the Western Balkans and Turkey: applying norms, changing awareness.

The conference was held on Monday, November 25, 2019, starting at 11.00, in the Blue Hall of the City Assembly in Novi Sad.

Representatives of relevant institutions (Justice, Social Care, Health Protection and Police) spoke at the conference about what has been done in the last two years to improve the accessibility of institutions and services in the system of protection against domestic violence to women with disabilities.

There was talk of what needs to be done to ensure that services and institutions for protection against domestic violence become fully accessible to women with disabilities and victims of sexual violence.

The seminar was presented by: Andrijana Covic in front of the Organization for Support of Women with Disabilities … IZ KRUGA- VOJVODINA; Tatjana Nikolic in front of the Vrsac City Council for Health and Social Welfare; Olivera Pejak Prokes in front of the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad; Ivan Radin in front of the Zrenjanin Police Department; Jelena Stojinovic in front of the Center for Social Work in Sremska Mitrovica; Danica Todorov in front of the Center for Victims of Sexual Violence.

The cooperation of the competent institution for protection against domestic violence with organizations working with women with disabilities and women victims of sexual violence is a basic prerequisite for providing information on services to reach a woman with disabilities, but also to make experts in institutions providing support services aware of the obstacles that need to be addressed.
