Novi Sad: Preparing a Shadow Report on Implementation of the Istanbul Convention

…IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA is one of the organizations constituting the SOS Vojvodina Network that, in cooperation with the UN Agency for Gender Equality and Epowerment of Women (UN WOMEN) and supported by the European Commission within the Implementing Norms – Changing Minds program, implements the project of preparing two shadow reports in the field of gender-based discrimination and violence for the 2016-2017 period. The first report will be submittet to the GREVIO Committee in charge of monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention). The second of the two reports prepared within this project will concern implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (the CEDAW Convention) in the Republic of Serbia.

After the initial consultative meeting in Zrenjanin at the beginning of March, the second meeting in the series of consultations re. Preparation of the report to the GREVIO Committee was held in Novi Sad this week. The meeting in Zrenjanin was aimed at delegating topics and fields each of the organizations would be covering in the report, setting deadlines, as well as agreeing about details concerning implementation of the entire process. The two-day meeting in Novi Sad was held in order to discuss details concerning the current phase of the project and challenges in the field of prevention and protection from violence against women and domestic violence in the Republic of Serbia, along with recommendations the report to the GREVIO Committee should contain.

The meeting brought together over 20 representatives of organizations and independent experts participating in writing of the reports. Along with …IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA, represented by Ankica Dragin on this occasion, another four members of the SOS Vojvodina Network attended the meeting – the Zrenjanin Education Center, Roma Association from Novi Bečej, Women’s Support Center from Kikinda and Women’s Alternative from Sombor. Women’s Leadership Academy and SOS Women’s Center represented Novi Sad organizations, while Osvit from Niš and Fenomena from Kraljevo represented South and Central Serbia, along with three organizations from Belgrade – Atina, Public Policy Research Center and Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence.
